I had a short but nice conversation with Dave Cowan the other day that included some talk of the type of church planting we want to do. It was very encouraging(Thanks Dave!) and has got me researching more. In that vain, I found this really awesome website about the city and it’s neighbourhoods. For a neat view of the neighbourhoods of Baltimore go to that link and then click on the Baltimore City Neighbourhood Map link on the right. It’s a PDF of Baltimore City all divided into neighbourhoods.
It looks like we will target Mount Washington first, but others on the top of our list include Hampden, Charles Village, Mount Vernon, Federal Hill, Fells Point and Canton. Not that we want to limit things, but I think those are the neighbourhoods that are most like us and would be the easiest to reach. We’ll see where God leads. We would love to connect with other like minded people and make a network of missional churches all over Baltimore. At least one missional church in every neighbourhood would be ideal. Then keep this network connected in some way to the Horizon network that is going to be reaching all the suburbs.
Lord, may your Kingdom come and your will be done here in Baltimore just as it is in heaven!
i was surfing one night and found your site and read some of your blog. i want to know what would have happened if jesus hung out with his own kind and not healed the sick, help the poor,taught prostitutes,tax collectors,etc.jesus was ridiculed for hanging with the “scum of the earth”. if we are to be “christ-like” then maybe we should be looking in other places than the neighborhoods you mentioned to spread the word of jesus.

Hey Bob, thanks for leaving a comment. I would love to target other areas, and I hope we do, eventually. What it really comes down to, honestly, is that I am suburbia born and bred and Alicia is a small town girl. This is the start for us. We do hope to be a part of getting missional churches started in all neighbourhoods in Baltimore, I just mentioned the ones I think we could handle living in at this point. God will keep stretching us and hopefully we will be able to reach rougher neighbourhoods in the future.
