“One loving heart sets another on fire.”

What makes me come alive?

Posted by Daniel on September 28, 2004

For our monday night group we have each been sharing something we have read recently with the group and discussing it. This week Shirley shared a chapter from Wild at Heart. I’ve read the book before and I really enjoyed it, and I enjoyed reading this chapter again. But something has been bugging me. In the chapter John Eldredge asks what makes us come alive… and at this point in my life I don’t have an answer. I need to figure it out…

Best of Baltimore

The Baltimore City Paper(A local free progressive paper) this month did their annual Best of Baltimore issue. It makes for an interesting read. Even more interesting to me is the Readers Poll where the readers get to pick what they think are the Best of Baltimore. One interesting category and winner this year was the best place to worship… the winner was: At home. Very interesting.

Feeling like a VIP 1

Last night a handful of us(Scott, Joy, Leslie, Alicia and I) went to a political fundraiser for Eric Bromwell. Scott had worked for his father Tom who was a state senator, and ran Eric’s election campaign… so he had an open invite to come and bring friends. So, we went down to the Bay Cafe for an all you can eat and drink $100 a person party, but we went for free. It’s nice to have connections. And man, does Scott have connections… everyone knew him. We make some rounds and got to meet a former governer, a bunch of current delegates and other influential people in politics. Then the Mayor of Baltimore Martin O’Malley shows up at the party… and Scott goes and gets him and brings him over to our table to introduce us. So, if he becomes President, like some people think he will, I’ll be able to say I have met him before. How cool is that.

Thanks for a fun evening Scott!

From A’s blog

A is taking catechesis training classes and had a recent post about it. One section I wanted to highlight:

“I actually heard the instructor say today that this is not just a form of religious education, but they want to teach both catechist and child that “this is about a whole way of life.” Yeah, how many times have we said to each other since we started talking about this community, and then as we actually started it, that this is more about a whole way to live our lives than it is about a different way to do church?”

That is really how I feel about what we are trying to do. Not a different way to do church, but about a way to live life. Thanks A.
