Brother Maynard came up with a good idea for a use of Planet Emergent. He posed a question and we are to answer it on our blogs and then he will post a wrapup in a few days. This was a really tough one for me. I love books. I love all books. But I have to rank them now, so here goes…
- Practice of the Presence of God by Brother Lawrence
This one culminated a reading spree I did about spiritual disciplines that set me free from the “quiet time”. For such a small book it really packs some good content. - Divine Conspiracy by Dallas Willard
Instead of culminating anything, this one started something. It got me on my way to some understanding of the kingdom of God. I’ve gone on to read N.T. Wright and others and understand the kingdom better, but I’m very grateful to Dallas for getting me started on the right foot. - Wild at Heart by John Eldredge
I read The Sacred Romance first and it got some of seeds planted in me. But Wild at Heart really made it grow for me. It excites me just thinking about it. To live a life of adventure pursuing God and what God has for me. The series finished up with Journey of Desire and Waking the Dead and they are both worth reading as well, but they didn’t have the impact on me that Wild at Heart did.
There are plenty of runner-ups so I won’t go into them. Check out my post recapping last year to gets links to a bunch of good ones I read last year.
