I just read a very good interview with Jim Wallis courtesy of christianity today. It deals with politics so be warned.
Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Lent 1
Today marks the beginning of Lent. The time of reflection before Easter. Tonight Alicia, Scott and I went to Scott’s mom’s church for an Ash Wednesday service. It is an Evangelical Lutheran church and is pretty liturgical. It was a very enjoyable time, even when I was a little confused trying to follow some of the liturgy. And we got our ashes:
And for Lent this year I’ve decided to give up sweets. That should take some discipline, but I think it will be good. May God’s peace be with you this season!
Google maps
Google is on quite a roll. Everything they touch turns golden. This time they put out Google Maps. This will probably be the end of Mapquest.
When you check it out, make sure you click and drag on the map. Here is the google map of where we live.
Meditative Monday night #1 2
We have started going through Spiritual Classics by Richard Foster and Emilie Griffin in our Monday night group. It’s a Renovare resource and seems very good so far. The first discipline we encountered was Meditation. We got a little passage from Thomas More and some scripture. We had a good dicussion about making time for God. It rekindled my desire to do regular silent retreats. I’m gonna have to make that happen quarterly or maybe even monthly.
This was Leslie’s first time being a part of our Monday night group. It was a natural fit as she is a very close friend with everyone in the group. It was nice to have you with us Les! We may even convince her to blog here eventually.
Back from WV for the Super Bowl
We got back from West Virginia this afternoon. Tif’s wedding was nice. It was harder on Alicia than she expected, but I’m glad we went. I’ve put some pictures up:
Because we had driven all afternoon we passed on any parties for the game. Instead we just watched it here. Good game. My Eagles could not pull it off, too many bad passes and bad game management. Maybe next year. Congrats are in order to the Patriots on winning another one. They really are a great team.
