I’d say it’s pretty accurate.

This is just a random post because I’m fairly bored and I’ve been doing a lot of browsing on the internet. One of the things that has been going on for a while that I really connect with is the Free Software/Open Source Software movement. I’ve been using Linux exclusively on my personal computer for about 7 or 8 years now. I used the Debian distribution for a long time, but now use Ubuntu, which I recommend to anyone interested in trying Linux on their personal computer. But there is a lot more that I connect with than just the computer side. Creative Commons comes to mind and the Free Culture movement in general as well. Stanford Law Professor Lawrence Lessig is a voice I always respect and I have been reading his blog for a long time. Groups like the EFF and Public Knowledge also click with me. As do sites like Wikipedia. There are a couple of books that I hear are worth reading(but I haven’t yet), Free Culture by Lawrence Lessig and Freedom of Expression by Kembrew McLeod, both available online under Creative Commons licenses. The Cluetrain Manifesto also fits into this some, and is available online as well.
Wednesday(well, we came down Tuesday night) my boss Jeff and I were in Richmond for the Virginia Applied Users Group meeting to try to drum up some business for Kite Tech’s Richmond office. We got a very nice reception from people, but there didn’t seem to be a lot of interest in using our services. Hmmm… wonder what that means.
Wednesday Alicia drove down to meet me so we could go visit her family for the rest of the week. Poor Alicia, she drove down in tons of traffic because of accidents and construction, in 103 degree heat, and the air conditioning in the Explorer is not working. We hung out at the mall for a number of hours before heading on the road.
Now we are down in Narrows, VA visiting Alicia’s family. It’s pretty boring here. We have watched a number of movies, including The One and Constantine. I’ve seen The One before and I really like it, but Constantine was a new one for me. It was pretty cool and made you think. If I am really bored later I’ll probably do a review of it on here. The other thing we have done is hang out with the new nephew Landon. He was really fussy yesterday, it was very good birth control. Alright, time to stop being anti-social.
We were down in Richmond overnight Friday to Saturday for the inspection of our house. Everything big looks good and there are only a couple little things that were noted. And this time we took pictures. They are available in the Our First House photo album if you want to see them.
We had a great little party last night. It was a going away party for Christina and for our Monday night small group. Christina is moving to Sebring, FL to marry Ben and start a life together down there. Our Monday night group is being put to rest because everyone is going their own ways.
We did the mexican thing with burritos/tacos, a mexican cassarole and Coronas and Margaritas. It was a lot of fun. We finished the evening praying for Christina. She has been an amazing friend over the years and I am really going to miss her.
I also got a text message during the party from a friend with some very exciting news. I don’t know if that is public knowledge yet, so I’ll just leave it at that.
Update: Apparently it is public knowledge now. So, congrats to Mark and Missy on their engagement!
