Authority article

Len points to and hosts a very interesting article on authority in the new testament church. If you are into church at all I suggest giving it a read and a ponder.

Relaxation

Posted by Daniel on August 27, 2005

It has been a stressful week at work, and my back has been bothering me(partly from helping a friend move, and partly because of the stress)… so I have really been looking forward to this weekend of rest and reading. I got an adding enjoyment when Alicia pushed me to get a massage. So, I had my first massage today. It was very enjoyable and I will definitely do it again. If you are in the Owings Mills area and would like to try a massage, I suggest Kim Krzyzewski at Ojas Wellness Center in New Town. She made my first massage a very comfortable and enjoyable experience. I’ve also gotten to read some more. I’m working my way through The Chronicles of Narnia at a good pace. I just finished the third book, The Horse and his Boy. Four more to go. What enjoyable reading!

Tonight we are gonna go to Scott’s condo for a movie night, and tomorrow should be another restful day. Yay for weekends!

Life stuff 3

Just a quick update on my ever-so-exciting life. I got back in contact with my roommate from college Drew. If you see comments on here from a Drew, that is him. Nice to be back in touch Drew. If he hasn’t changed too much in the past 8 years you should expect some snide provocative and mildly offensive remarks and funny interaction. ;-)

I was looking for something to read and Alicia suggested I read The Chronicles of Narnia. It has been a while since I read fiction, so I decided to go for it. Well, I got hooked on the first story and read all 107 pages of it yesterday. It’s a nice change of pace from the other stuff I have been reading. I have all 7 books in a single book, so it should keep me busy for a while.

Other than that, work is fine, nothing too exciting. There are a few things I need to deal with for the move to Richmond, but everything seems to be going good with that at this point. I can’t wait to be down there! I’m ready for a new chapter of life and a new adventure!

Preaching Re-imagined

Posted by Daniel on August 20, 2005

Since I haven’t preached in a church service in over 2 years now I think it’s strange for me to read a book on preaching. But I mentioned to Doug Pagitt that I was interested in his book on preaching, and he had Zondervan send me a complimentary copy. I got it a few days ago. It is the first comp copy of a book I’ve received, so I think I’m cool now.

The book is title Preaching Re-imagined. I dove into it without hesitation, knowing full well that I’ll probably not be preaching anytime soon. But I want to lend it to preacher friends and I don’t like recommending books I have not read. I read it in 4 days, and one of those days doesn’t count because I worked 16 hours that day. I really like the way Doug thinks. The book was an easy read and provided some worthwhile stuff to think about, even for someone who isn’t gonna preach. I am always thinking through thinks related to church and spiritual formation and community and such though, so I’m not the normal non-preacher. If you are a preacher, I suggest you give it a read. It will be on sale September 1st.

Learning things about myself 3

Posted by Daniel on August 19, 2005

As I’ve seen things go on in other people’s lives recently I’ve spent some time contemplating how I communicate and respond to criticism. I’ve realized that I am often too confrontational with my opinions when I share them, or I’m not upfront enough with my opinions because I don’t feel like getting into conflict. Not to mention that I takes things way to personally. I need to learn to communicate better.
