Quite a day 7

Posted by Daniel on October 27, 2005

Man, today was quite a day. I got some leads on possible clients, and did my first successful sales call. It was very fulfilling to have someone respond positively.

Then this afternoon I had coffee with Rock Higgins and Adele Sakler. I found them while looking for church stuff in Richmond. They are a part of what will be A Different Richmond. It was exciting to talk to them and see their passion. There were a number of strange connections, like they are looking to meet at C3, my buddy Cory from VT led worship for a church service Rock put on before, etc, etc… It turns out that Cory is in Richmond. Last I saw him was a couple years ago and he was still down in Blacksburg with NLCF. Rock gave me his number and I called him after coffee. We are gonna get together for coffee sometime and catch up. Very cool stuff. It definitely seems like God is doing something here, and I’m looking forward to seeing what it is.

Well, I came home from that and took my lovely wife out to eat at Sette down on Tobacco Row. It’s this cool little pizza/bistro type place. The food was very good and our waitress was a lot of fun. The resturant comes recommended. It was a good day.

Made the switch 4

I know that those who know me best are going to be the most surprised about this one. I switched from Linux to Windows on my laptop. Yep, my geek cred just went way down. I had been Linux-only for 7 years but I just got tired of all the little things not working right.

Fixing or Creating 1

Posted by Daniel on October 21, 2005

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about fixing things vs creating things. During my day job I spend all my time fixing things. But lately I’ve gotten a chance to create a website and am working on another. It is like a breath of fresh air to be able to be creative. I bought a couple of books to help me learn to program in Ruby to enable more creativity. I’m looking forward to it!

Speaking of looking forward… I’ll be back in Richmond tonight and get to see my beautiful wife again after 3+ days apart.

Great night last night

We came back up at Maryland yesterday for Ben and Christina’s wedding party. It was a nice time, and nice to celebrate with them. We got to see some people we hadn’t seen in a while, like Sheryl, Jason and their daughter Megan. After that we went out to eat with Jeff and Mindi(who were also in town for the party) and Neil and Megan and their one year old Harry. It is always fun to hang out with them.

As we were leaving there Shawn Singer called me and told me some people were up at Bateman’s. So Alicia and I went on over. Man, it was a Young Life reunion! Shawn, Neil, Joe, Josh, Jake, Jed, Lindsay and James were all there! We had a blast! Man, it was great to see everyone! That crew has always been a ton of fun to hang out with. The biggest news is that Neil and Bethany just got engaged(man, what a ring!), Jake just got back from Iraq and Jed is married with a kid. Everyone was really excited when they heard that Jimmy and Beth are having a baby. Man, I have to make sure I keep in touch with that crew…

Daniel Farrell, salesman

Posted by Daniel on October 11, 2005

So, here I am in Richmond, needing to drum up some business. Guess I’m a salesman now. I did cold calls to eight different insurance agencies today. Never done that before. I was a bit nervous, but it was a thrill as well. Hopefully I’ll actually get decent enough at it to gets some clients.

Daniel Farrell, salesman… who would have thought.
