Being creative 4

Posted by Daniel on November 30, 2005

I would very much like to be more creative. I’ve written about it before, but I haven’t followed through that much.

Here is the extent of my creativity: I do a little web design and a little programming for work, but mostly it’s fixing problems. I play a little guitar, but haven’t picked it up in a while(I should). I’ve done a couple drawings, but only a couple. That’s about it.

Well, I’ve picked up another thing to try. I’m trying knitting. Yeah, I know, not many guys knit. But I got some needles a week or so ago and I sat down last night and between Alicia and a book she has I was able to get myself started. I’ve got almost a foot of what I think will be a scarf done already. So, make fun all you want, I’m being creative. I’ll be putting up a photo of the work in progress.

Update: Here is a photo of the finished scarf:

Worship in Richmond 3

Posted by Daniel on November 28, 2005

We have worshipped with a couple different communities in the last day or so. Yesterday afternoon/evening we helped setup for and participated in the first service of A Different Richmond, a brand new church plant getting started down in Shockoe Bottom. It was cool to see Rock so excited about things last night. This has been a long time coming for him and his crew.

Tonight we worshipped with Richmond Hill, an ecumenical community up here in Church Hill. Everyone was very nice, and it was the most diverse(Black, White, Young, Old) group of people I’ve seen in Richmond so far.

Both were good experiences that I’m glad we were a part of. They are also both groups of people I’m looking forward to getting to know better.

A group blog for me?

Posted by Daniel on November 27, 2005

Bob Hyatt recently rallied a group of guys to start a group blog for those with more traditional/conservative theology in the emerging church scene. It’s called Via Media. After giving Bob a hard time about calling the rest of us wacky(I know I’m wacky, but not everyone else is) I figured I should also plug the blog for him.

It got me thinking about what a cool idea the group blog thing is and how I would like to be a part of one. So if anyone would like to be a part of a group blog discussing emerging urban missions or non-institutional church stuff(or one of each) let me know.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Posted by Daniel on November 24, 2005

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Today we are off to Herdon, VA to celebrate with my extended family. Then tomorrow Alicia’s mom and grandmother will be coming into town for the weekend. It’s the first time they are getting to see the house. We’re excited to have them!

In other news, we are filling out the house. We got a dining room table yesterday. The washer and dryer are getting delivered on Friday. I’m gonna take a bunch of pictures of the house with our stuff in it this morning and get them online to show the family today.

Update: We had a very nice time with my family up in Herdon yesterday. Ate lots of good food! Alicia’s mom and grandmother just got into town for the weekend. Should be a nice visit.

Congrats Brad and Brooke!

Just got a very exciting phone call from my good friend Brad. He asked his girlfriend Brooke to marry him, and she said yes! Congrats guys! I’m so happy and excited for you two!
