Things I like from other religious traditions 2

Posted by Daniel on May 24, 2006

If you are a regular reader here it’s no mystery that I come from a protestant christian religious tradition. But there are a number of things in other religious traditions that I really appreciate and admire. Thought I would share some of them here.

I really appreciate the comtemplation and monastic traditions in the Catholic church. I’m a fan of eastern meditation. I love the body/mind connection that is a part of things like Yoga and Tai Chi(and the other Qi Gong traditions) that are from Hinduism/Buddism/Taoism. And I marvel at the Langar of Sikhism and think it is a wonderful expression of the kingdom of God.

“..the Light of God is in all hearts.”… Wow.

This sounds crazy to some people, but it seems to me the Langar is definitely a God inspired concept.

    Hi

Like you, I believe that we can learn a lot from other cultures, traditions and faiths. Currently I’m reading ‘Emerging Churches’ by Gibbs and Bolger and this speaks of using compatible things from other faiths and adapting them to suit the changing times we find ourselves in, whilst still adhering to the work of Jesus. Have you read any of Thomas Merton, listened to Taize Chants, read Tich Nhat Hahn books on meditation etc. All cool!
