Murder this morning 3

Photo of murder scene

This is the scene this morning on the 400 block of N. 31st St, two blocks south of where we live. According to the officer I spoke with the murder happened shortly after 6AM. I’ll post more info as I find it out.

Update - 9:12AM: Talked to a couple officers and got pieces of the story. They have two 15 year old kids from Gilpen Court in custody. They were in a white car with a black top. Apparently right after they shot this guy they went over a couple blocks and robbed another guy. They were caught by officers, with with guns on them up by Oakwood Cemetary. They have been positively identified by the robbery victim and the car matches the one that left the murder scene. Good job RPD!

Update - 11:46AM: It’s starting to show up on mainstream media. The Times Dispatch and CBS 6 are covering it.

Update - 7:41PM: A neighbor just told me that the victim lived just around the block from us and was walking to work. She remembers him as always walking home from work carrying grocery bags and always smiling. The same neighbor also told me that they found another body up by Armstrong High School a little later and they think it’s connected. Mainstream media have not updated their coverage to include any more information yet. Say a prayer for the victim’s families if you are the praying type.

A visit to Richmond Hill 4

I made a visit to Richmond Hill tonight. I very much love what they are about, even though I feel very young there and don’t really like hymns. It’s neat to have something like that so close to us.

Our weekend in MD

Posted by Daniel on August 20, 2006

We have had a very enjoyable weekend in MD. We came up on Friday in time for a Kite Tech company cookout which was very nice. Then we have spent a lot of nice time relaxing with my family. This morning we made a visit to Horizon, Owings Mills and got to see some friends there. We’ll be heading back to Richmond shortly. Very enjoyable little weekend away.

New Dead Sea Scroll theory 2

Posted by Daniel on August 15, 2006

I’m a little bit of a archeology nerd, so ignore this post if you don’t care about it. But there is apparently a new theory about the origins of the Dead Sea Scrolls that I find interesting. As they dig around the site more they are finding evidence that it might have not been a monastery at all, but a pottery factory, and that the scrolls are not from a single sect(the Essenes) but were possibly taken from Jerusalem and hidden there by people fleeing the Romans. Check out the article here for the longer scoop.

Getting myself in shape 1

Posted by Daniel on August 15, 2006

I’ve decided that I need to get myself in shape. I’ve been doing a Tuesday morning bike ride with some friends and it’s been a nice first step, but it’s time to step it up. So, exercise wise I’m gonna plan on biking with the guys Thursday mornings as well, and biking over to the gym and doing some strength training on the other weekday mornings. But it’s not only physically that I’ve getting a little flabby, I’m pretty flabby spiritually as well. So I’m starting a spiritual training program as well, consisting of Celtic Daily Prayer, daily scripture reading from the Episcopal lectionary, and praying for Richmond following Richmond Hill’s schedule. I’ll report on progress.
