Today Alicia and I took the day and enjoyed the scenic Route 5 drive from Richmond to Williamsburg. Equipped with our Buzzy’s coffee we drove out of the city and were greeted with yellow’s, orange’s and red’s in the trees and a perfect blue with a couple of puffy little white clouds in the sky. It was a gorgeous day to take in the change of seasons. We made a slight detour to see Shirley Plantation along the way. We took in the sites of this beautiful old farm, enjoyed the feel of the wind coming off of the James while sitting on a bench under a 350 year old tree and took a couple pictures to share the beauty with you all:
Williamsburg was pretty as always but very crowded today as there seemed to be a William & Mary reunion going on. We got some lunch at The Cheese Shop and walked and drove around a little. Then it was back on the road to take in the sites again and enjoy some NPR on the way back to the urban jungle we call home.
It appears to be pretty close to peak time for the leaves, but next weekend should still be very pretty if you would like to enjoy the drive yourself. Our route(which I recommend) involved taking Main Street east from Shockoe Bottom and getting on Route 5 and sticking with it the whole way there. It made for a relaxing and enjoyable date.

I had an enjoyable date too….
Thats really cool. We were in Williamsburg too, only we were trying to shop. (emphasis on “trying”) It was soooooooooo crowded! It took 20 minutes to find a parking spot. Next you go you should check out the Colonial Parkway from Willamsburg to Yorktown. And the ferry ride was as beautiful as always.
Also, there is this new developement there called NewTown. It is a “New Urbanism” community mixing old style townhome living with todays technology and conveniences. It looked fantastic.
