Being urban christians 3

Posted by Daniel on November 12, 2006

Alicia and I, as followers of Jesus, have felt a real draw to cities. It’s why we live in Richmond. We want to be a part of bringing God’s dreams for this city to reality. We want to be sources of reconciliation, justice and peace in places normally lacking in them.

I’m learning more and more that this will involve me changing my way of life. I need to change if I’m going to be a part of a larger change. As a part of that I’ve started feeling lately like we need to be a part of a faith community here that focuses on these things. David Fitch has a worthwhile blog post that serves as an introduction to other christians to the type of thing we are interested in. There is also a worthwhile followup on Subversive Influence. If you are interested in being a part of something like that let me know.

Finally, here are a couple of links that I found worthwhile recently. First, Tim Keller talks about being urban christians and second Gordon Cosby on a similar topic.

I am sort of in the same place as you are for me its been all talk and no “do”. The realities that we want to see realized are not going to come unless there is a shift in priority and paradigm. Its not going to come with only a mere part-time effort either. It takes full commitment. You said you “started feeling lately like we need to be a part of a faith community”. I do hope you are still considering the possibility of starting one, especially with the experience, knowledge, passion, gifts, and unique vision you possess (yes it is unique). Hope to get together with you sometime soon.
