Going green 4

Posted by Daniel on February 27, 2007

We’ve been taking some steps around here to go green. We’ve switched out almost all our light bulbs to CFLs. We’ve gotten three recycling containers and are making a big effort to recycle everything we can. We’ve started the switch to biodegradable cleaning products(Method rocks!). Future changes will likely include making our house more energy efficient(more insulation, tankless water heater, etc), a compost bin, a hybrid car(likely a Prius) and maybe other fun things.

Take a few minutes today and think of some simple things you can do to make this world a cleaner and better place.

Hey what happened to the corn stove idea? If you insulated your house then Im sure you could probably rid your heating bill completely by burnding a corn stove. You may want to make sure that your stove emissions arent too bad though.
I read a very weird but smart idea the other day to save your pre-addressed envelopes you recieve from credit card companies and such and black out the addresses so you can re-use them. Also to stop using paper towels and use only kitchen towels that are washable.

The corn stove is still a possibility. But corn has become a lot more expensive this year with the big ethanol push. Because of that, if/when we get a stove it will probably be something that is more versatile. I think they are called biomass stoves.

Yeah, cutting down on paper products used is important. We have signing up on lists to try to cut down on the amount of junk mail we get. Paper towels are also on the list of things to cut back on.
