We just finished up the first week of Alicia’s leave of absence from work. I wasn’t sure how it would be for both of us to be around the house most of the time, but it’s been nice. We’ve gone for a lot of walks in the neighborhood and even walked down to the Farmer’s Market and Zuppa’s the other day. I’ve even been able to get work done.
To accommodate for our reduced income(and probably just to keep our sanity) we’ve made some decisions to simplify things in our life together. We are going to eat at home more and actually cook stuff instead of just microwaving frozen things(wraps and potatoes for dinner last night!). We are going to bike more. We’ve even been tossing around the idea of becoming a 1 car family. Should be interesting!

Being a one car family is one of the best decisions we’ve ever made. We were able to pay off my car AND our insurance went down a ton. It can get annoying in bad/cold weather, but overall I feel good about us doing it. I get a lot of strange looks from people when I tell them that Ross just rides a bike, but them most of those people don’t live in the city and could never do that.
We are also now a one car family, not by choice but because one broke down and it just doesnt make sense to have it fixed now. Jennifer has started riding her bike to work everyday and she loves it. We have been saving a ton on gas too.
Except for having the pick-up for hauling stuff, we’re essentially a one-car family. The key, it seems, is figuring out how to get the non-car person to work and back.
Good adjustments. Pam and I need to make some adjustments too. We would like to move but before we do I need to make some repairs (as you know) to the house. And we would like to try for another baby soon within the year.
Hey Dan!
Glad you and Alicia are doing well. We have been doing the one car family thing for about a year now and it’s been fine. It hasn’t been that bad….just have to work out schedules more . Alot of times I just drop clay off. It sounds dumb, i guess…but it has actually been fun for us seeing what we can do without.
